Most people probably already do this but thought I would post just in case you wanted to know. My husband and I were tired of having so many dishes and constantly running the dishwasher. We decided weeks ago to only have 1 set of dishes for each person. (For example, 1 cup, 1 plate, bowl, fork, knife, spoon). When that person is done with their meal each set gets washed and dried for the next meal. If they have not cleaned their morning dishes it's pretty obvious by lunch. They have to clean it to be used for lunch! To be honest, each child loves to wash their own. This has saved on lots of useless "dirty dishes". It is our new normal and we still are using this system after many weeks. By the way, we will sometimes swap out our cups or plates to "new ones" for the week but we each know who's is who's. Their cups always have their names or different colored straws. This also helps with the ones who don't drink enough water. Each time they walk by their cup they take a big swig (that is what my Dad used to say, swig, which means gulp). We seem to be more hydrated and fewer dishes. What can I say??? Little silly but works for us!!!!!
